Categorising transactions

Every transaction gets a suggested ATO category on import. Confirm or correct it once and BrickTrack applies the same rule the next time a similar transaction comes through.

Getting categories right is what makes your tax reports usable without a re-sort at tax time. BrickTrack suggests a category for each imported transaction against the ATO's rental property categories — loan interest, repairs, council rates, and so on.

When a suggestion is uncertain

Anything the AI isn't confident about sits in Review rather than being assigned silently. Work through Review when you have a few minutes; it's designed to be quick, not exhaustive.

Correcting a category

Change any transaction's category from its row in Transactions. BrickTrack remembers the correction and applies it to future transactions that look the same — from the same merchant, for a similar amount — so the categories you fix once tend to stay fixed.

Splitting a transaction

One payment covering more than one property, or a mix of deductible and private expense, can be split across categories or properties from the same screen rather than needing a manual workaround.
